SNOW!
Spring brought snow into DC (twice) at the beginning (3/6) and end of the month (3/25).
The girls finally got to make a snowman and snow angel and sled a little bit. It's been a really weird year for weather...

No More Trees
One of our favorite things about our townhouse was the grove of trees behind us. The trees provided privacy and shade and were beautiful to look at from the kitchen window.
Then one day the bull dozers showed up and started tearing the trees down for a new housing development.
It was so heartbreaking and terribly sad.
We listened to the crashing and crunching and snapping as the trees came down one by one and hoped that maybe they would leave a few up behind us.
They didn't. Not a one.
I nearly cried when I saw everything demolished.

More Park
We've been spending a lot of time here, especially now that the weather is practically perfect.
Leah dilligenly says, "out and in" while moving her legs everytime she swings. I'm hoping soon it will start propelling her. She could literally swing for hours.

Harris Teeter
The girls love going to the grocery store.
They opened a new Harris Teeter really close to us, and it's very lovely and kid friendly with cookies, free balloons, an airplane shopping cart.
Leah holds the balloon so tight the entire shopping trip, and then she makes sure to point out all the lost balloons in the rafters.
Just last week, she started adding items to my list like purple applesauce, macaroni and cheese, and string cheese.
Sarah also is starting to become fond of the balloons.
It made me smile to catch them holding hands on the couch, while I was putting the groceries away.
Sarah's face is so funny, and Leah is completely immersed in her show. She is starting to become really interactive with the TV show.

Fall Colors
Fall is so gorgeous here, and I love that we get to look at the beautiful foliage from our deck everyday. We get to enjoy watching the leaves change color without any of the responsibility of having to rake them up when they fall.
We usually play on the deck in the morning. Sometimes Sarah joins us if we go out in the afternoon. In the mornings she is almost always sleeping.
You should have seen Leah's face when she saw her blue tongue after eating a dum dum. She was so concerned, and then she had to keep checking it throughout the rest of the day.
The deck is the prefect place for Leah to be outside without being too far from home so I can frequently check on Sarah. Leah likes to pull all the "balls" off my tomato plants. She also enjoys carrying around buckets, looking for animals in the trees, throwing rocks from one of the potted plants, and having me pull her on her bike. I think she's probably old enough to use her feet to move around her bike, but I don't blame her for not doing it. I almost always give in when she gives me one of her very persuasive pleases.
One of the downsides of having a baby that sleeps so much, is that we don't get to go out as often. Sarah doesn't like the stroller or car seat. I can do a few errands if I put her in my sleepy wrap, but it's hard to go for long walks.
So today my friend Jenn offered to take Leah and her son on a walk together. It's the perfect day for it. Leah was ecstatic. She loves walks, and she loves Jenn's boys even more. While I miss out on the fresh air, I get to blog and catch up on my e-mails.

Curb Appeal
The major project my Dad took on while my parents were here was to landscape the front yard.
After several trips to Home Depot and the nursery and lots of hardwork and time, he helped us turn this:

New Door and Groundhogs
We got a new front door installed this week. Unfortunatly, the size is wrong so we have to wait for Home Depot to order a new one. In the meantime, we have a temporary one with a very large sidelight. Home Depot was absolutely great to work with and quickly resolved the issue with no additional charge to us.
We also have a groundhog that has decided to make a home under our front porch. We are working on getting it to move elsewhere...but it keeps coming back. Ick!

Getting Ready
My parents have been having the time of their lives touring all over Europe for the past 8 weeks. They arrive on Tuesday for a week layover...We are so excited to see them.
Since they don't get to visit us very often, we always try to finish a few projects before they arrive. Yesterday, we worked on the playroom downstairs.

It's amazing how changing the way something is presented can make everything seem new. She's been playing with these toys for a long time, and you would never know it from her reaction.

Manassas Train Festival
This was the second year we went to the train festival. Grandma & Grandpa Stathis joined us. We had a blast, and it's definitely going to be a family tradition.

Failed Attempt
It's been nearly a month since I felt extremely motivated to garden. My first task was to move a plant we've had for almost three years to a bigger pot.
Somehow during the transplant I managed to snap the crooked stem in half...Oops...and I had to pull it out.
Over the next few weeks, I watch the plant slowly die. This is what it looked like a week ago before I finally put it out of its misery.
The good news is that the azalea bushes we planted in front of our house are still alive.
The true test will be if they are still alive in January. We were told at the garden center that if we didn't plant them correctly they would die in exactly 9 months.
As a result of the demise of a very good and decent plant, I'm modifying my original gardening plans. Instead of planting lots of vegetables, I'm going to have a few pots of flowers and then give it a shot again next year.

Azaleas
Last year was full of numerous updates to the inside of our house. This summer, we are focusing on curb appeal. We are in the process of getting a new door, and today we picked up some azaleas with bright pink flowers for the front of our house.
We went took our time looking at all the plants.
The four azalea bushes barely made it into our Honda Accord.
Next week we are going to plant them, and then David is going to build me some planter boxes for our deck. I think they will look so great with some tomatos, peppers, and flowers.
